A Sleepover Party

So what's more fun to do on a Friday the 13th than have a sleepover party for a just turned 10 year old?  Well, nothing of course so that's exactly what we did.  Kaitlyn had 3 friends over and two spent the night.  Natalie and CJ had a sleepover downstairs at our neighbors house that night.  They just couldn't take all those preteen girls.  So everyone had a blast.

Eating the pizzas they made

Too hot can you cool it off?

Digging in!

The birthday girl enjoying her pizza

An icecream cake

Happy Birthday to you!

Present time!

It's Tinkerbell!

I love it!

A giant pencil

Silly scissors

A journal

More markers

Colored pencils

Tiny notebooks

Glue!

Pencil pouch

Construction paper

A makeup bag

What do we have here?

All sorts of goodies

Oooh what a pretty color

Which one do you like?
Her friends know her well!  Tinkerbell, art supplies, and nail polish.  She was a happy little girl!

After presents we started watching a movie, but no one seemed interested.  They were doing each others hair while the movie was on and then we decorated some hair clips.  Then one of her friends left.  The other two got into their PJs and they did some crafts with Kaitlyn's new craft stuff.  We sent them to bed and they were up really late.

I got up the next morning and made pancakes for breakfast and had to wake them up to eat and get ready to be picked up.  Kaitlyn didn't want it to end.

Kaitlyn's sleepover

I am so behind on things on this blog.  I have a few family activities we have done over the last two weeks with pictures that I have not shared with you.  So we are starting out with Kaitlyn's sleepover at school.

The last Saturday in March Kaitlyn's school did a sleepover for the children who participated in the summer reading program at the public library.  Her school had read the most and as a reward for that they let them have a fun evening of crafts, a movie, and a sleepover for those children who wanted to.  Since last year Joe was the honored parent who got to sleep over (or rather not sleep) because I was 9 months pregnant this year was my turn.  I almost dodged a bullet too because they weren't going to do the sleepover since too many children participated.  But the 5th graders petitioned the principal and convinced her to do it.  Honestly, I can't say I blame them.  These kids are told every year that if they win (they win every year) then that's their prize.  So good for those kids for standing up for what they believe in.

I have to say the whole thing wasn't quite as bad as I thought it would be.  I didn't sleep great of course because I was on the floor, but I slept.  And it was nice to get some time with just Kaitlyn and see her interact with her friends without any of her siblings around.  She had fun and is already looking forward to next year when her brother will get to join her and Daddy gets to go back.

Getting all set up with her friends in the gym

Reading a magazine before the fun begins

Waiting for a story and some popcorn

Listening intently to the "Man Team"!

Getting ready to make slime

Stirring her slime

Kneading her slime!

Stretching her slime

That's some stretchy slime!

4th and 5th grade dance party before the movie

We watched Dolphin Tale for a movie after all the story telling, slime making, and dancing was done.  And then it was lights out.  Kaitlyn and her friends stayed up pretty late.  We got up early the next morning, had a lovely donut breakfast, and went home to see her siblings before we had to go back out for the Easter Gala.  Pictures to come of that!

Girl Scout Sleepover on Hold

Well, seems that I didn't have all of my ducks in a row for this sleepover. Who would have thought that for parents to come with their own daughters on a sleepover they needed to have background checks? So the sleepover at the aquarium which I had scheduled for Friday night has to be put on hold until I can get all of the parents registered and background checks done on them.

I felt so bad having to tell the girls last night that we couldn't go. They were so looking forward to this. I have spoken to the aquarium though and they were very understanding about it. They have other dates in the future. One was in July, but it's a boy/girl sleepover which I'm not going to be able to get approval on. The other is in September. That should give me plenty of time to get everything all set up and this way maybe we'll get to have more of the girls come since a lot of them couldn't make it due to the Memorial Day weekend.

I'm still having trouble with a couple of parents though. The Service Unit manager and Membership Marketing manager have told me that I am right that the money is for the troop and not an individual girl. So I am not to give them something which would be unfair to the other girls. Now that we have to change the date and given how far in the future it is we shouldn't have too many saying they can't make it since they'll be able to save the date. I imagine that these parents have no intention of bringing their daughters to this though so they'll probably continue to request what they feel is their fair share. At least now I can put this on the Service Unit manager and Membership Marketing manager though. One of these parents has already told me that once she gets her daughter's "fair share" they'll be done with Girl Scouts at least as far as my troop is concerned. It's a shame that it had to come down to this with these parents being so selfish though.

My co-leader and I have been discussing whether or not we want to continue doing Girl Scouts next year. Both of us feel if we don't have to deal with these two parents then we could keep it going. I guess we'll have to see. We had an ice cream social last night with our troop and the others in town and we really had a nice group of girls. They were mellow and got along great and no fighting or she did this and she did that to me. The girls who weren't there were all the ones who are in this little click together. There are 5 girls that when they get together (three of them belong to these two parents who have been troublesome) are just awful to each other. They are fine when they aren't all there and I can handle a few of these girls in this little click when the rest aren't there. Our troop all around I think would be so much better without all of that drama. I was sure that I wasn't going to do Girl Scouts next year, but now I am definitely reconsidering.

Am I Crazy?

I think I must be. For some reason I agreed to allow Natalie (9 TOMORROW) to have a sleepover tonight. The kids are on April vacation this week. Natalie wanted her friend to sleep over. It's been 2 years exactly since I've allowed her to have a sleep over. The last one was awful. Then again this one is going to be totally different. First of all 2 years ago she was just 7 and in the 1st grade and second of all she had 2 friends sleep over last time who were just 6, but also in the 1st grade. They were twins and one stayed the whole night the other went home. I got zero sleep that night. I do remember saying never again too. But here I am allowing it again. And with a baby in the house to boot who used to sleep through the night, but lately has been waking up at oh about 3 in the morning. I was trying to figure out when would be the best time this week to allow this sleep over. I didn't want to do it when Joe had to be up at 4 a.m. for work the next day which for the most part only leaves the weekend, but Friday night he's working late and the weekend was pretty much out. However, I knew he was taking tomorrow off from work from both jobs to spend with Natalie. So after discussing it with Joe he said that Monday into Tuesday would be best and Natalie liked the idea of having her friend here for her birthday. So now I have a crazy day. I have to take CJ to the doctor in the morning for a weight check which I'm hoping goes well. I know he's put on weight, but is it enough? Will the doctor listen to me about my concerns that CJ has allergies? Who knows. Then it will be to the grocery store to get some much needed food in the house as well as sleep over supplies. Possibly rent a movie too. Then home to start baking Natalie's cake for tomorrow, clean the house, finish up my laundry, and set up the air mattress all before 3:30 when I will have an extra girl in the house screaming and giggling. Luckily it seems to be a nice day outside so out they will probably go to play. Oh this will be fun. Perhaps I'll get a chance to update later on my insanity. Or the rest of the week I will spend catching up on some zzzzzz's. Guess we'll see.
